A MAN and a woman in their 80s were taken to hospital after an accident on the A985 yesterday (Monday).

The two-car crash occurred around 6.15pm on the westbound carriageway near the Bluther Burn junction to Oakley.

Two fire engines from Dunfermline Fire Station attended, and crews and paramedics helped release an 83-year-old woman driver and a 87-year-old male passenger from a car.

Firefighters then made the vehicles and road safe, and an ambulance took the man and woman to the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert.

Police shut the road, which was reopened around 8pm.

A police spokesperson said, “Police in Fife attended a road traffic collision at High Valleyfield on Monday, 10th November at around 6.15pm. "Two cars were involved in the incident resulting in the temporary closure of the A985. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance. “As a precaution an 83-year-old female driver and an 87-year-old man, who was a passenger in the same car, were taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service. The road was reopened just after 8pm.”
