SENIOR citizens in Kelty proved that it’s not just the young folk that can throw a good party as they enjoyed a Christmas bash at the Masonic Hall last week.

The community council had proposed the event in order to make sure that the housebound and elderly in the area got out to have a good time over the festive period, and businesses, groups and individuals from the Kelty area helped put on a night to remember.

The party-goers got to enjoy a meal, as well as music from the local pipe and brass bands, and Fife Provost Jim Leishman was also in attendance alongside Lochs councillor Alex Campbell.

Cllr Campbell and his wife sponsored the event through their business, and he told the Press that the evening showed how well the community works together.

“It was a great night and a great community event,” he said. “We had help from Benarty Care Home, Tom Mutter from Kelty PSV minibuses and Tom Brady from Kelty Taxis, who provided transport to take the people to and from the event free of charge.

“We also had catering provided, so all the food was free of charge and around 15 people from the community volunteered to help on the night.

“Janet Young, from the community council, deserves a special mention for how hard she worked.

“The community came together to put on a super night. Lots of people gave up their own time to help the less fortunate and everybody had a ball, it was a right good get-together!”
