UNCERTAINTY surrounds the future of Aberdour hotel the Cedar Inn after it closed its doors this week.

It’s the latest of a number of village venues to close recently.

And in August last year Aberdour’s Woodside Hotel announced it was cutting its number of rooms from 20 to 13 to make way for housing “to maintain a viable business”.

A spokesperson for Punch Taverns, who own the Cedar Inn, told the Press, “We can confirm that the Cedar Inn is currently closed and Punch Taverns are in discussions with all relevant parties to ensure that the pub reopens in the near future.” Arthur Lloyd, chairman of Aberdour Community Council, said, “The Cedar Inn has been closed for around four days now. It is a popular place but I am not shocked that it has shut its doors. So many places in Aberdour have been closing because they are not making enough money. People’s habits are changing and they are not going out for drinks any more because the prices are going up.

“This has happened to a lot of places around here. The Drift Inn was turned into private housing, similarly The Fairways and the Woodside was partly turned into private housing.” Community stalwart George Connell, said, “I never knew it was closed! I thought it was doing quite well. It is sad that it has closed but I suppose it is not a surprise places like this are struggling with lots of people drinking in their own homes because of increasing costs.

“Aberdour is not big and there seems to be less and less places to go for social events now which is a shame.”
