The pupils are no stranger to helping the charity, having handed over a fund-raising cheque recently.

And, on Monday, they showed off their bursting backpacks which had been filled up with food items as part of the campaign’s appeal, which aims to give meals to some of the world’s poorest children every day they attend school.

Lorraine Brown, clerical assistant, said, “The children did a really good job of collecting things. Pupils from Primary 6 and Primary 7 approached our local church, businesses and families to ask for donations to the appeal. Many of the shops in Oakley acted as collection points and thanks to the generosity of our community, families and parish, we handed over 35 full backpacks to Mary’s Meals representative Margaret Hart, along with extra items to help towards the charity’s appeal.

“We would like to thank everyone who has donated items no matter how small to help us help other children around the world.”
