FLOOD prevention work costing £1.7 million is set to get underway in Kincardine.

The Scottish Water project in Kirk Street and the surrounding area, which will take five months, should start on Monday.

Part of the road will be closed for six weeks with the work taking place at the grassed area to the rear of Tulliallan Primary School.

Project manager Charles Paul said, “There should be no disruptions to services during this work therefore taps and sinks can be used as normal.

“Our contractors, Morrison Construction, will be completing this work on our behalf.

“Work is scheduled to begin week beginning 6th July and last for approximately five months. Please note that dates could possibly change at short notice depending on progress.

“We would like to thank local residents for understanding and co-operating with us while we complete this essential work.” The flood prevention project will result in restricted access to the overspill car park used for the school, although the timing of the works during the school summer holidays means there will be less disruption, and there will be local diversion routes and signs put in place.

To maintain the safety of local residents, the public footpath linking the A977 with the school will be closed for the duration of the works.

Pedestrian access will be available via Kirk Street.

Any local residents who have any enquiries about Scottish Water or the project should contact 0800 0778778 quoting reference “Capital/400524/MRN”.

Scottish Water has spent £224.5 million in Fife since 2002 to improve water and waste water services across the region.

In the 2015-21 investment period further investment is planned to improve and maintain drinking water quality and protect Fife’s natural environment.
