FIVE West Fife Scouts are on the adventure of a lifetime after jetting off to Japan for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree.

Teens Cameron Craigie, Aaron Jack, Aidan Hopkins, Ewan MacPhail and Lucy Chalmers are among 30,000 Scouts from 161 countries who are converging on Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi, until Saturday 8th August.

The event is specifically for youngsters aged 14-17, and over the 10 days, they will get to take part in several exciting programmes.

The Scouts will get to explore Tokyo, the ‘Global Development Village’, ‘Crossroad of Culture’, ‘City of Science’ and they’ll get the chance to live with a Japanese family.

Before they left, Ewan (17) told the Press, “Japan is going to be an outstanding opportunity for me and my fellow troop members who are also attending this out-of-this-world journey.

“It will allow me to build on skills and explore a completely different culture and I hope I’ll make some lifelong friendships along the way. This trip will be a life-changing one and after a year-and-a-half of planning, I’m overwhelmed at how quickly it has all come together and I’m extremely excited.” Dunfermline district commissioner Joe Rosiejak said, “It’s an accolade every Scout aspires to and it’s a great honour to represent Scotland.

“It’s a marvellous opportunity to make lifelong friends, learn about different cultures, creeds and ways of life from every corner of the world.

“It will be a fantastic educational experience for them – I’ve told them to be a sponge and take in everything that they can.”
