Flats plan is wrong idea

Comments (1) | Print | Email

IF Fife Council"s City of Dunfermline area committee recommend refusal of a planning application (Flats get go-ahead but bakers dismiss closure risk claim, Press, 8th January), how does Councillor Mogg overthrow this decision? Especially suggesting it would be a 'crime' to refuse and that Stephen"s could go bust.

Not the words I would expect to be used in describing a planning application.

Who suggested Stephen"s would be in financial difficulties if planning permission were not granted?

Who informed Stephen"s that they would have no problem getting planning approval?

In the present financial climate the property could be boarded up, due to the depression in the building trade and the lack of mortgage facilities.

I agree with planning officer Mary Stewart, I would like to see the existing building refurbished after years of neglect, but not with 22 flats.

There are five residents in Monastery Street, which means 100 per cent against the proposal.

If you are familiar with this street you will be aware that parking is not easy, and with a possible 22 more cars, highly improbable.

Ronald J Irvine,

7 Monastery Street, Dunfermline.

Youre so right Ronald infact it makes me wonder just how much honesty there is in this department. Its a well known fact that that Fife council have interests in both commercial & private new builds and have done for years. A close friend of mine worked in the planning department and never saw any applications for any of the \\\"pies\\\" that Fife council had their dirty fingers in ie; the townhouses in pittencrief street. My only hope is that the same will not be the case for the planned building of flats/houses across from Urquhart flats heading west to Crossford.
