COUNCILLOR Helen Law is right to say that “it is now time to ensure all of our young people in Dunfermline and West Fife are educated in modern, fit-for-purpose facilities” (‘We want £50m for schools’, Press, 16th July). Perhaps because she’s a Dunfermline councillor, she mentions all the high schools in the area except Inverkeithing.
Some time ago, we were told that, of all the Fife high schools, Inverkeithing was most in need of replacement after Madras and Waid. Both of those now have planning permission with work expected soon. Moreover, Levenmouth and Viewforth have jumped the queue and construction there is well under way. Now Dunfermline is to jump the same queue and there’s talk of something similar in Glenrothes.
I can see the logic of replacing two schools with one but the quality of the school buildings should be the main criterion, not the proximity of another school. Inverkeithing High deserves its turn.
Cllr Dave Dempsey, Conservative councillor for Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay & Aberdour, Carlingnose Park, North Queensferry
