The first look at the new Mitchell...

When Aidan Turner got the role of Mitchell in Being Human there were a lot of people convinced he wouldn't be able to do what Guy Flanagan did in the pilot. I say a lot. Not a lot maybe, but certainly a vocal minority of the people who fell in love with the show when it was first shown.

The debates as to why the recasting happened are still ongoing. The Beeb powers that be claim they wanted to make it appeal to a younger demographic. But I still remain convinced that having commissioned Phoo Action instead they lost the chance to secure the services of Flanagan and original Annie Andrea Riseborough and then tried to 'spin' this error to appease the small but devoted fanbase, shooting themselves in the foot rather spectacularly rather than allaying any fears.

But all the chatting, all the worrying, all the debate can be alleviated now. Well ok, actually not - I think this is going to kick it off more - the BBC have just unveiled a Mitchell origin story which gives us not only our first glimpse of Aidan Turner but also our new Herrick.

All I can say is wow. While I liked Guy Flanagan, this five minute short for my money shows a scarier, more complex Mitchell and a more humorous and less po-faced Herrick. No more is he lurking in shadows in designer clothes like a refugee from an Anne Rice novel, suddenly it's the Krays with bite.

Check out the video and join the debate. What do you think? For my money I am just more excited than ever. Now let's have Annie's origin story please!
