WOODMILL High School's netball stars are feeling cock-a-hoop after shooting their way to a second successive Fife Schools Championship.

The school entered three teams in the S2 tournament that took place on Monday January 25 and Woodmill's 'A' side repeated their victory in last year's S1 event by defeating Buckhaven HS 10-6 to win the final.

After winning their group, Woodmill saw off the challenge of Beath High in the quarter finals before getting the better of Madras in the last four as they surged to an impressive championship victory.

Levi Wilson was awarded player of the tournament and a strong day for Woodmill continued as both their 'B' and 'C' teams qualified from their group to contest the top prize, with the 'B' team missing out on a final place after losing to Buckhaven in the last four.

The 'C' side also performed well before bowing out to Madras in the quarter final and Jacqueline Moore, the school's netball coach and principal teacher of PE, said: "The team won the same championships as first years so that's two in a row for them, which is very good. They are also leading the Fife League so they are doing very well but they are always there at practice, so they are very keen. Success breeds success and to have three teams entered is really good, especially as some of the bigger schools only entered one. It says a lot for us but the girls see the school has been successful in the sport.

"The girls always looked like they would be winners against Buckhaven and out of a squad of nine, I was able to give everybody a game in the final, which was great. Levi Wilson was player of the tournament which was excellent but a few of the girls played also played excellently and probably had nominations too."

The girls were due to travel to Balerno High School yesterday (Wednesday) in the Scottish Cup.
