HEADWELL Bowling Club enjoyed an evening of celebration recently as the club’s board of management recorded its appreciation of some excellent performances delivered by teams and individuals throughout the 2015/2016 season.

The gents’ team (pictured) rounded off a terrific league campaign by clinching the Scottish Indoor Bowls Division 2 (East) title.

The talented team lost only a single match in the process with skip Graeme Martin being singled out for special praise in leading his rink through the season undefeated.

After finding the going tough in previous league campaigns, the ladies’ team produced some tremendous performances over the course of the season and only narrowly missed out on becoming champions when results in the final week of the competition went against them.

Three mixed rinks enjoyed a terrific run in the Fife Fours competition – which was hosted by East Fife BC in Methil – and made it through to the final where they finished runners-up to near-neighbours Abbeyview.

Not to be outdone, the gents’ seniors team shrugged off their disappointing Scottish Seniors league campaign with some sterling performances in East Lothian IBC’s Jock Brodie competition, making it through to the final where they now face the hosts.

Individual performance of the season was by last year’s men’s champion, Brian Russell, who represented the club exceptionally well in the SIBA National Championships as he progressed through the competition before falling at the semi-final stage.

Brian was also selected to play in the Scottish international team trials and just missed out on the final squad.

Past-president Eddie Cathcart thanked everyone for their efforts and looked forward to continued success in the future.
