THERE was a strong showing of PH Racing Club members at the Scottish 5K Road Championships last Friday evening at Silverknowes.

New recruit Roger Clark excelled, posting a personal best of 16 minutes 27 seconds, followed closely by Colin Somerville in a new best of 16:40. Stuart Mackay went sub-17 for the first time, clocking an impressive 16:53, while Darren Jubb (pictured) crossed the finishing line in 17:04.

Martin McNellis produced a strong run to finish in 18:26, fast-improving Wallace Mitchell set a new best of 18:33 while junior athlete, Daniel Smith, clocked an excellent time of 18:43. Ed Norton produced another strong run to finish V60 Scottish Athletics silver medalist while Mary Western finished V50 Scottish Athletics silver medallist, proving what valuable assets they both are for the club. Justine Vandermotten, Zoe Stuart, Natalie Brown and Isla Mitchell all recorded personal best times.

Club president Stevie Ogg made a return to competitive action, timing at just under 21 minutes, while Ian Johnston, Mark Mackenzie and Kieran Morgan showed the benefits of the club’s structured training by clocking their fastest 5K times this year.

On Saturday, Jonathan Peebles was among a field of 492 runners at the Edinburgh parkrun where he placed third overall in 17:53. At the Dunfermline parkrun, Campbell finished second in 19:17 while Racing Club team-mate Alex Keenan was third in 19:30.

Anne Hartmann produced a strong run to finish second lady at the Edinburgh to North Berwick 20-mile road race in a fast time of 2:23.09.
