PARS midfielder Shaun Byrne has ended his long association with the club by signing for Livingston today.

The 22-year-old confirmed last week that he would be leaving the League One champions and he has been quickly snapped up by Lions boss David Hopkin.

Livi, relegated from the Championship after losing their play-off semi-final to Stranraer, said that Byrne was one of their "top targets", adding that they were "delighted he has agreed to come on board and help push for a return to the Championship at the first time of asking."

Byrne joined Dunfermline as a youth player at the age of 14 and was handed his top team debut under Jim Jefferies when appeared as a substitute in a League Cup tie with Montrose in 2012.

He was a key part of the Pars team that reached the Youth Cup final in the same season, but he was thrust into the top team spotlight as the club entered administration.

Byrne started the season well under Allan Johnston but, due to the excellent form of Andy Geggan and Josh Falkingham, found starts in the first team difficult to comeby.

Speaking to Press Sport after the final day win over Peterhead, Byrne said: "I'm at the age now where I've got to be playing; I've enjoyed it here, I love the club and appreciate everything the fans have done for me over the last four or five years in the first team, but it might be time to move on."

Byrne made 114 appearances for the Pars and scored 11 goals.

Meanwhile, Livingston have confirmed they will face Dunfermline in a pre-season friendly at the Tony Macaroni arena.

The game will take place on Saturday July 2 at 3pm, following on from Athletic's trip to Alloa on Wednesday June 29. They will also play Clyde at Broadwood on July 5.
