OLYMPIC bronze medallist Eilidh Doyle is on course to win a maiden Diamond League title after a strong performance in Switzerland last night.

The Pitreavie AAC star, who memorably helped GB's 4x400 metre relay team finish third in Rio, was back in action in the 400m hurdles at the meet in Lausanne.

Doyle, who also reached her first 400m Olympic final in Brazil, put her eighth place finish to the back of her mind as she ran a strong race to finish second and extend her lead in the Diamond League standings.

Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad carried on her Rio momentum to win in 53.78 but Doyle clocked a time of 54.45 to finish second, ahead of Rio silver and bronze medallists Sara Slott Petersen and Ashley Spencer.

The result means that, with just the season-ending meeting in Brussels to go on September 9, the 29-year-old leads the standings by six points ahead of the USA's Cassandra Tate.

Doyle's current best performance in the Diamond League was a second place finish in 2014.
