WEST FIFE star Caroline Weir has been named in the Scotland squad that will bid to secure a first major finals appearance later this month.

The 21-year-old Liverpool Ladies midfielder is in line to win her 27th cap when the Scots travel to Iceland for their final match of the UEFA Women's Euro 2017 qualifying campaign on Tuesday.

Anna Signeul's side, second in Group One, are already guaranteed the minimum of a play-off place for the finals, which take place in the Netherlands next July and August.

Iceland top the group – ahead of Scotland on goal difference having played a game less – but with the eight group winners and six best runners-up progressing directly to the tournament, Scotland could qualify without kicking a ball if results in other groups go their way today (Thursday) and tomorrow.

Scotland's women have yet to qualify for a major tournament and Dunfermline-born Weir, who joined Liverpool in January from Bristol, has featured in all seven of their qualifying matches so far, scoring twice.
