YOUNGSTERS from Kelty and Dalgety Bay primary schools were jumping for joy after sprinting to glory at an indoor athletics festival last week.

A total of 430 pupils in Primary 4-5 from 17 West Fife primaries took part in the indoor fun in an athletics festival at the Carnegie Leisure Centre last Thursday organised by Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council.

The festival was held as part of a series of events in eight separate sports operated throughout the year, supported by Active Schools Fife, Fife Sports and Leisure Trust and the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust.

It was held over two sessions as pupils tackled events such as relays, jumps and javelin, and in the morning session it was Kelty who came out on top, edging out Duloch and St Margaret’s primaries, who finished second and third respectively.

In the afternoon, Dalgety Bay finished top of the class as they edged Donibristle into second place, with Townhill finishing third.

Pupils in Primary 6-7 had their opportunity to show off their athletics skills during their festival held on Tuesday, and Kelty were the overall winners, edging Duloch into second place.

Points awarded to the top three schools go towards the final total that will determine the winners of the Sports School of the Year Award, presented at the Sports Council’s annual awards ceremony in February.
