DUNFERMLINE have made their first foray into the January transfer market by completing the return of defender Callum Morris.

The 26-year-old has put pen to paper until the end of the season following his release from a brief spell with Aberdeen, for whom he failed to make a single appearance.

The popular centre back was signed by Jim Jefferies in the summer of 2012, making his debut in a 3-0 League Cup win over Montrose (pictured).

Newcastle-born Morris went on to become a mainstay of the Athletic side and, having survived the administrator's axe when the club went into administration, he played 37 times the following season as Dunfermline were beaten in the Championship play-off final.

After playing 67 times for the Pars, Morris joined Dundee United in June 2014 and went on to make 38 appearances at Tannadice, which included scoring against Athletic in a League Cup tie last season.

Following United's relegation, he moved to Pittodrie in the summer but has now returned to East End, and Pars chairman Ross McArthur said: "We're obviously delighted to sign Callum and bring him back to the football club. He is a player we all know very well and recognise the quality he possesses."

Morris won't be available for Monday's derby at Raith Rovers and will meet up with his team-mates on January 9.
