DUNFERMLINE Boxing Club's bid to find a new home has paid off after they reached an agreement to train at Woodmill High School.

Last month, Press Sport reported that the Canmore Street club were on the hunt for new premises after head coach of 16 years, Tommy Cannon, threw the towel in on his association with the club.

We told you that he decided to hang up his gloves after struggles with funding for rent saw him fear for his health - and the crippling costs forced the club to close its doors on Hogmanay.

However, the club picked itself up off the canvas under the stewardship of coaches Dany Coll and Derek Stewart, who organised a crowdfunding campaign to help find and fund a new place to train.

Last week, we reported that the campaign was on track to smash its £1,000 target and had even secured a signed glove from ring legend Manny Pacquiao to raffle in aid of the cause.

Now the club have confirmed that they are off the ropes and back packing a punch after securing a spot at Woodmill.

Training resumes this week and a delighted Dany posted on the club's Facebook page: "Delighted to confirm we are gonna be back training as of next week. We are gonna be moving into Woodmill High School and training in the sports hall there. We are just sorting out days and times and I will post them when they are confirmed over the next couple of days. If all boxers / parents etc could share this and let everyone know that would be great.

"Woodmill are gonna be working closely with us and there are many future possibilities for us so this is very exciting news. I will inform you all of times and days when they get agreed and I thank you all for your patience and understanding as we tried to save our club."

The club held classes for adults and kids four nights a week and Dany said that they feared losing some of their talented young fighters had they not found somewhere to train.

He said last week: "We're a busy club and have assured youngsters and their parents that we will find a new home.

"The place we were in was far too expensive - and we were struggling with the rent. If the registered boxers we have don't get into training soon, they'll probably go to other clubs.

"The sooner we find somewhere the better - we don't want to lose the talent we have fostered."

Their campaign was backed by Dunfermline and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman, who said: "Daniel, Derek and the rest of the committee are showing such fortitude in their determination to ensure the club's boxing legacy in Dunfermline. They simply need a new premises with a reasonable rent and I'll do what I can to help them get re-established."
