A TALENTED West Fife teenager played a starring role as his team secured promotion in the Scottish national hockey leagues.
Hanru Wehmeyer, who is in S6 at Inverkeithing High, was Inverleith Hockey Club’s main goal-getter in just his second season of indoor hockey as they clinched a place in division two for next season.
Earlier this month, the 17-year-old and his team-mates took part in the Gala Finals Day at Perth’s Bell’s Sports Centre to determine whether they would make the step-up after finishing second in National Division Three and beat Perthshire 6-1 win to secure promotion.
Hanru, who along with Queen Anne High School’s Sam Eadie helped Inverleith win the Scottish District Place hockey final in April, finished as the team’s top scorer with 26 goals and his sparkling form saw him included in a prestigious talent programme.
He has been included in Edinburgh Hockey Academy’s Talented Athlete initiative and also played for East of Scotland under-18s last weekend in Perth, helping them to a silver medal in the Inter Districts competition.
