LAST SUNDAY saw Kingdom Homes Carnegie go goal crazy in Tayside as they ran up a record National League score for the club of no fewer than 17 strikes.

Carnegie travelled to take on Dundee University. The game had been in limbo for much of the week with the students unsure about a venue for the match but the Carnegie lads were hopeful of playing as it would be coach Jarrod Bass’s last game before he headed home to Australia.

Missing veteran Stevie Chalmers, the Reds were still confident of a result, especially as striker Gary Clark made his return having missed several games due to work commitments.

It was Clark who got the ball rolling early on, scoring a quickfire hat-trick as well as Davyn Keuter getting on the scoresheet to make it 4-0. Two more goals followed to make it 6-0 at half-time and Carnegie were cruising.

Coach Bass issued his half-time instructions and told the Reds to keep playing as they were and keep the tempo really high.

This was exactly what happened in the second half, Bass got on the scoresheet himself as did young Ben Pearson, who popped up with two classy finishes.

Free-scoring skipper Andy Doyle managed to score four only to be outdone by Clark, who notched up five for the game.

Keuter followed up his earlier tally with another drag-flick and Ewen Wardman scored his second goal of the season, following on from his first last weekend.

Sam Goldie got one for himself as did Duncan Ruzzak, who scored from the tightest of angles.

Carnegie ran riot in the second half, running out 17-0 winners in the end to give Bass a proper send-off and take the club to 31 points and third spot in the table on goal difference, with their goal tally now an impressive 95 strikes from 15 games.

Skipper Doyle was delighted with the way his team tackled the game against the division’s bottom side and told Press Sport: “The concentration was solid throughout and it was a good way to say thank-you to Jarrod for his contribution to the set-up this season, on and off the pitch.

“Our target has to be to finish in the top three but with no game this weekend we will be concentrating on being ready for our match with Granite City in Aberdeen on April 1, with them on the same points as ourselves.”
