SILVER jacks were thrown at three West Fife clubs as the outdoor bowling season got underway.

Dunfermline, Dunfermline Northern and Inverkeithing bowling clubs could not have asked for a better day as they opened their greens for the year under the scorching sun.

Willie Clark, greenkeeper and honorary club member, started proceedings at Inverkeithing Bowling Club, and Stevie Marshall, club secretary, said: “It was a long winter of waiting!

“It was a lovely day for us and although the green is still a little heavy, it’ll pick up pace. We’re keen on having more juniors join us for the year.

“We’ve got a good coach in place, and junior membership is free for any youngsters under the age of 18, so we’re looking for new faces.”

The 2017-18 season at Dunfermline Bowling Club, located at Priory Lane, was also opened by David Cullinan, the husband of Kaye, the club president. The club hold an open day this Saturday for potential members at 2pm.

Christopher Dunn, president of Dunfermline Northern, watched on as his 10-year-old grandson got the bowls rolling for the new season at Dewar Street.
