THE only way is up for the kids of the Carnegie Crimpin’ Chimps as the climbing group continues to rise in popularity.

Running from the Carnegie Leisure Centre in Dunfermline, the club is now offering twice-weekly sessions for youngsters ranging from primary school age to teenagers this summer.

The club was founded as the Carnegie Junior Climbing Club in May 2015, before the affectionate unofficial name change.

Expert coaching will be provided by Martin McLoughlin, with outdoors trips in new locations also set to offer new challenges.

The wall within the centre was refurbished in 2012 and after running regular climbing sessions for kids, Thom Humphrey, club president, spotted the potential for a club to be formed and oversaw the process.

Steven Maxwell, Carnegie Junior Climbing Club treasurer, said: “We are very fortunate to have access to such a great facility locally and it has been instrumental in the success of the club’s popularity. Most of our youngsters had some experience of climbing before, usually through the trust’s beginners classes, and have been able to improve their skills and experience through regular access to the wall.

“We hold twice-weekly sessions at Carnegie Leisure Centre and the young people who attend get so much from the social aspect of getting together – it’s a great activity to get involved in and we are really pleased with the enthusiasm of participants and support of parents which makes the club such a success.”
