PARS striker Michael Moffat has left the club to rejoin Ayr United on a two-year contract.

The 32-year-old, whose deal with Dunfermline expires at the end of the month, has opted for a move back to Somerset Park and end a three-year spell with the Pars.

Moffat joined Athletic in 2014 when he was signed by Jim Jefferies after top-scoring in League One the previous season.

He hit 26 goals for the Honest Men in the 2013/14 campaign but, in a disappointing season for the Pars, scored just six times as they finished seventh.

The arrival of Allan Johnston saw Dunfermline romp to the title in 2015/16 with Moffat scoring 15 times in all competitions.

He featured 38 times this season, scoring six goals, the last of which came in April's 3-1 home win over Morton.

Speaking to the Ayr website, Moffat said: "In some ways it didn’t feel like I was away as Dunfermline and Ayr kept drawing each other in cups and got promoted together.

"I love the place here and it’s great to see so many familiar faces.

"Obviously we want to get promoted and to make a big challenge for the title, it won’t be easy especially with Raith coming down however we have some really good players and that has to be our aim."

Manager Ian McCall added: "He’s a player I really like and the fact he has played here before has nothing to do with signing him. I am hugely impressed with his attitude, work rate, movement and goal threat."
