CONNOR LAW saw his latest professional boxing bout knocked down after promoters were forced to cancel last week.

The Kelty light-middleweight star had been due to take on experienced Welshman Bradley Pryce – a former Commonwealth champion – on Saturday night in a fight that was to be chief support to Gary Cornish’s British heavyweight title fight.

Highlander Cornish was set to face Sam Sexton at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Motherwell, but promoters Prospect Boxing were forced to call off the event after Sexton pulled out.

That meant the chance to make 11 wins from 11 fights in the professional ranks has to wait momentarily for Glenrothes Boxing Club’s Law, who made it a perfect 10 in March when he defeated Francis Tchoffo on the undercard of former Commonwealth Games star Josh Taylor.

Promoter Paul Graham said: “We’ve been left with no choice other than to cancel the show because Sexton has pulled out.

“His manager hasn’t spoken to me but he called the British Boxing Board of Control to say that Sexton has had to withdraw on medical advice.

“I don’t yet know what that means and whether it’s injury or illness which has forced him out but I’m sure I’ll find out in due course when he supplies his medical certificate.

“It’s a real disappointment for all the other boxers on the bill and Scottish fans in general but it’s just too late draft in a replacement to face Gary in a fight of this magnitude.”

It denied Law the chance to step into the ring with 36-year-old Pryce, who won the Commonwealth middleweight belt in 2006, and went on to make six successful defences.

His coach, Stevie McGuire, said that Pryce was the type of opponent Law needed to continue his progression in the ring, and he said: “If he’s going to go anywhere in boxing then he has to beat these guys.

“We’re looking at him being a title contender at the start of next year; a Celtic, British or Commonwealth.”
