ALL lines between Haymarket and Inverkeithing were closed last night after a person was hit by a train.
Rail services were severely disrupted following the incident which occured just after 9.30pm on Wednesday between Haymarket and South Gyle.
Passengers had been warned that delays were expected for the remainder of the evening with replacement buses put in place.
Scotrail tweeted: "Sadly, due to a person being hit by a train between Haymarket and Inverkeithing, services through these situations are disrupted."
Trains were diverted where possible with trains serving Fife, Perth and Dundee all affected.
Scotrail later posted a second message apologising to commuteres affected by the cancellations and delays.
They said: "Services will be disrupted for the rest of the night I'm afraid. Sorry if your journey's been affected tonight."
