A COMMUNITY hub that will bring three sports clubs together in Dunfermline to offer coaching and playing opportunities for kids has officially launched.

The McKane Park Community Sports Hub, supported by Active Schools Fife, Sportscotland, Fife Council and Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council, has brought together Dunfermline Rugby Club, Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club and Dunfermline Squash Club.

The three clubs will work together in a bid to offer increased opportunities for people across Dunfermline and West Fife to become involved in sport, physical and social activities, coaching and to gain skills, experience and qualifications in organising and delivering activities.

The hub is also linked to Dunfermline High School and coaches from each club will host sessions in the school in a bid to increase participation and increase club membership among youngsters.

Lindsay Weir, secretary of Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council, said: “The hub is linked with the high school to encourage the kids to play more rugby, cricket and squash, and has been worked on over the last couple of years by Douglas Mayne (rugby club), Brian Branchflower (former Dunfermline High rector), the cricket club and the squash club.

“We’re trying to get children playing multi-sports and we are looking to bring the tennis club into it.

“That would be the next stage but, at the moment, we’re linking with active schools and Dunfermline High, where there will be specialist coaches going in to hold sessions.”

The hub will also be hosting a multi-sport summer camp from Monday July 31 to Friday August 4, which will give kids from P5 to S2 the chance to try different sports throughout the week.

On the first day the sports will include tennis and football.

It costs £50 for the five days and to apply and for more information, email admin@mc kanepark.community, or contact Jamie Moffatt on 03451 55 55 55 ext 402507, or at jamie.moffatt@fife.gov.uk.
