PITREAVIE'S Eilidh Doyle secured her place in the 400m hurdles final at the World Championships in London last night (Tuesday).

The British Athletics team captain advanced to the final after edging through in the eighth and final qualifying place with a semi-final time of 55.33 seconds.

She will now compete in the 400m final on Thursday evening.

Doyle was handed the role of team captain for the championships following a poll of all the 78 members chosen for the squad.

Doyle, who has taken to the track at the World Championships for a fifth time, was the face of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and completed a "grand slam" set of Commonwealth, European and World Championship medals last year in Rio, when she added Olympic 4x400m bronze to her collection.

She became the most decorated Scottish track and field athlete in history earlier this year after winning a 4x400m relay silver at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
