MEDALS and ribbons were picked up by talented youngsters with Zodiak Gymnastics Club as they started the new competition season in style recently.

Gymnasts with the club, based in Dunfermline’s Bruce Street, were in action at the Scottish Gymnastics Level 6&5 competition in Perth and produced some impressive displays.

The event, which ran from September 1-3, began with medals for Lynne Harvey, who competed in the Level 5 (14+) category.

She scored 41.10 overall and picked up a bronze for vault, a silver on bars and a fourth-place ribbon on the floor, kicking off what proved to be a success-laden weekend for the Zodiak kids.

Saturday’s competition at Level 5 (11 years) saw Caitlin Mackinnon take the fourth-place ribbon on the beam as she scored 42.734 overall, while in Level 5 (12-13 years), Rebecca Currie placed fourth on the floor, Rachel Robertson sixth on the beam and Abbie Hughes fifth on bars.

Elise Mackenzie, meanwhile, struck championship gold at Level 6 (10 years) in a superb performance that saw her score 45.084 overall and win silver medals on the bars and floor, and a bronze on the beam.

Team-mate Rachel Anderson scored 43.917 to win championship gold on beam and take a sixth-place ribbon on the floor, while fellow Level 6 competitors Iona Kidd, Louisa Gorrie and Robyn Omond scored 42.784, 39.268 and 39.569 respectively.

There were then even more reasons to cheer for Zodiak on the final day.

At Level 6 (8 years), Reyna Sinclair scored 41.50 to take a fourth-place ribbon on the beam and a sixth-place ribbon on the vault, while there was an overall silver (44.60), beam bronze and sixth-place ribbon on the floor for Imogen Edwards at Level 6 (9 years).

Zara Edwards was fifth overall (44.40) and took championship gold on the floor and a fourth-place ribbon on bars, while Katy Haslam, competing at Level 5 (10 years), finished fourth overall (45.30) and took championship gold on the floor and bronze on the beam.

Jenna Donnelly, competing at Level 6 (11 years), won overall bronze with a score of 46.30 and championship gold on the bars, a fourth ribbon on the beam, a fifth on the vault and a sixth on the floor, while Emma Law scored 42.30.
