ACROBAY Gymnastics Club built on their success at last month’s Scottish Acro Invitational by bagging even more medals.

After 17 partnerships took on some of the best competitors from clubs in Scotland, England and Ireland in that event in Motherwell, 11 joined 435 gymnasts from across the UK at the 2018 Spelthorne Acrobatic Cup.

Held in Surrey, they picked up one gold, one silver and three bronze medals to cap a highly successful competition.

Rosyth-based Acrobay were represented by Rosie Jasper & Ava-Violet Daglish (Grade 4 Women’s Pairs); Lewis Cullen-Young & Katie Hendry (Grade 4 Mixed Pairs); Amy Middleton, Eve Ormiston & Hannah Johnston (Grade 4 Women’s Groups); Nicole Paltiel, Annaleece Simrick & Melissa Parris (Grade 4 Women’s Groups); Jaymi Neilson & Eilidh Park (Grade 5 Women’s Pairs); Eve Gillies & Kayla Ballantyne (Grade 5 Women’s Pairs); Amy Byrne, Orla O’Neill & Caitlin Mitchell (Grade 5 Women’s Group); Abby Martindale & Grace Crawford (Age 11-16 Women’s Pairs); Mica Fraser, Deanna Canny-Armitt & Melissa Dewar (Age 11-16 Women’s Groups); Olivia Keir, Erin Bailey & Casey Cameron (Age 11-16 Women’s Groups); and Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir & Chloe Rowlands (Age 13-19 Women’s Groups).

Each partnership gave top performances and at the end of an exciting weekend, there were gold medals for Erin, Sacha and Chloe, silver for Lewis and Katie, and bronze medals for Rosie and Ava-Violet, Amy, Orla and Caitlin, and Mica, Deanna and Melissa.

The Grade 5 partnerships of Eve and Kayla, and Jaymi and Eilidh, also performed well and beautifully executed performances saw them place first and second respectively in the balance section.

Head coach Suzanne Fraser commented: “This is the first time we’ve competed at the Spelthorne Cup and hopefully it won’t be the last; Spelthorne are one of the top clubs in Great Britain and it was an amazing experience for our gymnasts.

“They gave it their all and showed that they are capable of performing with the best. Once again, they did us proud.”
