ROSYTH'S new boss got off to a winning start and there were also wins for Oakley and Kelty Hearts, but Crossgates Primrose fell to defeat.

McBookie.com East South Division:

Rosyth 5 Kirkcaldy YM 0

BRIAN MUIRHEAD got off to the perfect start as Rosyth’s new manager with a comfortable win over Kirkcaldy YM.

Tam Hampson fired in a hat-trick with Dale Prattis and Greg Page also on target.

It was a welcome victory that ended Rosyth’s four-match losing run and boss Muirhead was pleased with what he saw.

He told Press Sport: “I thought we were excellent in the first half and really imposed ourselves on them.

"We kept the ball well and made a number of good chances and probably should have scored a lot more but their keeper made some decent saves.

“It’s still early days but the boys are buying into my style of football. We want to keep the ball down and play higher up the park in dangerous areas.

“We lost our shape a little in the second half but we managed to give game time to some 17- and 18-year-olds.

"The under-17s are to become an under-19 side next year and I’ll be looking to see whether any of them can make the step up and play for the juniors. It’ll give a boost to the rest of the younger guys as they can see they’re in with a chance of doing the same.”

Muirhead now has his sights set on a second win when his side travel to Beechwood Park on Saturday to face lowly Stoneyburn.

Oakley United 3 Harthill Royal 2

OAKLEY picked up the three points at Blairwood Park but boss Richard Fox admits they made tough work of securing the spoils.

A Gavin McMillan brace and an excellent team goal, finished off by Reece Strachan, had the hosts cruising to a 3-0 lead at half-time but were reduced to 10 men in the second half after an “extreme rush of blood to the head”.

Substitute Jack Cowan was on the pitch for less than a minute when he was given his marching orders.

Harthill fought back and capitalised on United’s lack of concentration to grab a quick-fire double from a free kick and a corner.

Fox’s men held on, and made it six wins from six for the new boss, who said: “We were great in the first half and the third goal by Reece was fantastic.

“We switched off for a couple of minutes in the second half and were caught out at a corner and we conceded a cheap free kick.

“I don’t think Jack had touched the ball once before he was sent off. It was extremely disappointing but he’s only young so he’ll learn from it.

“Thankfully, it didn’t cost us in the end as we defended well with 10 men.”

United were missing six players for the fixture but Fox is confident he’ll have a full selection available to him for the trip to league leaders Pumpherston.

Fox added: “There’s a feel-good factor about the squad right now and it’s because of them that we have six wins from six games since I became manager.

"It’s all down to them and I can’t praise them enough.”

West Calder United 3 Crossgates Primrose 0

IT WAS a bad day at the office for Primrose as they helped their opponents to a comfortable win.

After falling short against Edinburgh United the previous week, boss Alan Campbell would’ve been hoping his side could bounce back with a win against West Calder.

Primrose conceded two own goals and a late clincher in the defeat but will hope to get back to winning ways at bottom side Kirkcaldy YM on Saturday.

East of Scotland King Cup first round:

Burntisland Shipyard 2 Kelty Hearts 7

KELTY battled back twice to seal their passage into the next round of the King Cup with a win over their local rivals.

Errol Douglas bagged a hat-trick for Thomas Courts’ men with Scott-Taylor Mackenzie, Stuart Cargill, Brian Ritchie and Scott Dalziel also on target.

The crowd at Recreation Park witnessed the frantic cup tie start in surprise fashion as the hosts edged ahead in two minutes.

John Martin opened the scoring but a fine free kick from Mackenzie levelled matters.

Stopper Scott Christie and the woodwork saved Hearts from falling behind momentarily but Burntisland once again found themselves in front from the penalty spot.

Brian Breen stepped up to fire home from 12 yards after Christie felled Reece Brown on 30 minutes.

Cargill then showcased his own coolness as he too fired home a penalty before half-time for Kelty.

With the tie level at the break, Courts’ men came out firing in the second half and despatched their opposition convincingly.

Douglas made his mark on proceedings with a calm finish on 54 minutes after a mistake from Burntisland’s defence which saw Kelty take the lead for the first time.

Ritchie was on hand to save the blushes of team-mate Cargill as the forward failed to convert his second penalty of the game, tapping home the rebound on 59 minutes.

Douglas grabbed his second seven minutes later and completed his hat-trick with a neat finish under the keeper after Shaun Greig’s perfectly-weighted pass sent him through on goal.

Dalziel finished the scoring late on as Courts’ side eased into the next round with a clinical second-half display.

Hearts will travel to Edinburgh to play Herriot-Watt Uni in the second round, and will do so this coming Saturday as they return to league duty.

Saturday’s fixtures (kick-offs 2.30pm): McBookie.com South Division – Kirkcaldy YM v Crossgates Primrose, Pumpherston v Oakley, Stoneyburn v Rosyth. East of Scotland League – Herriot-Watt Uni v Kelty Hearts.
