MEDALS were once again the order of the day for Acrobay Gymnastics Club as their aspiring young stars impressed at the recent Linlithgow Invitational.

The club, based in Primrose Lane, Rosyth, travelled to the event with gymnasts in their grade 1-4 development group, who were given their chance to shine and to compete against clubs from across the east and west of Scotland.

For some of those taking part, it was their first time competing and, while Acrobay also had to make some last-minute changes due to injury, they returned home with medals in their pockets.

Two of those were Lainey McKilligan and Myla Love who, in the Grade One women's pairs, struck gold to help Acrobay to a one-two finish, with a similarly fine display by Gabriella Moon and Evangeline Simrick rewarded with a silver medal.

In the Grade Two women's groups, Iona Begg, Lauren Sweeney and Alanna Hynd finished second to take home the club's second set of silver medals, while Georgia Mayston, Rose Martindale and Lily Joyce just missed out on the podium by placing fourth.

Charlotte Hodge and Claire Marshall, and Chloe Brown and Imogen Barclay, finished fifth and sixth respectively in the Grade Three women's pairs while, in the groups, there was the perfect conclusion to Acrobay's meet as Lauren Cameron-Harper, Abbie McClean and Emily Healy won gold medals.

A club spokesperson said: "It was the first time competing for some of our gymnasts, as well as there being some last-minute changes due to injury.

"Coaches Nicky, Taylor and Emma were very impressed with the girls' performances and ability to cope under the pressure of competition.

"All the partnerships did extremely well, with all finishing in the top six of their categories, as well as taking some top spot medals!"
