BULLISH Lee Ashcroft insists the Pars are ready to record an overdue win at Falkirk – and take another step closer to the play-offs.

The influential centre back was the unlikely goal hero in Tuesday’s vital victory at home to Livingston that moved Dunfermline up to third in the Championship table, and two points clear of fifth-top Morton.

Although the Greenock club have played a game fewer, maximum points from Athletic’s four remaining matches could see them through and the 24-year-old says they’re confident of getting them.

They cross the Kincardine Bridge on Saturday looking for a first success at the Falkirk Stadium since 2011 – seven games in all competitions since have yielded two draws and five losses – and Ashcroft told Press Sport: “Looking at the games coming up, we’re just taking them one at a time but we know we can win them all.

“The derby’s always a harder game, especially away, and I think we’re due to beat them there.

“We’ve beaten them twice here but if we can get the points there, then it’s a good run-in of games we’ve got and we’re confident of winning them all.

“Hopefully the teams round about us can drop points and we can keep doing what we’re doing; pick up the points and go into the last couple of games with, hopefully, a wee cushion, a bit of confidence and get in that play-off.

“If you get in there, anything can happen.”

After six games without a win between January and last month’s defeat at St Mirren, the Pars are now six unbeaten and have recorded an impressive nine clean sheets in their last 15 games.

Ashcroft continued: “We’re confident at the back and obviously Robbo (Lee Robinson) has been brilliant behind us as well, and has made some great saves when needed to.

“When we score first we’re confident and you can see that through the players. We’re confident in each other and need to keep doing that, and hopefully the strikers can keep producing with their work-rate and the goals they’ve been getting recently.

“It’s about clean sheets and getting results. When you pick up one they seem to keep coming, so hopefully we can keep that momentum going into these last four games.

On his goal, he laughed: “It was just instinct; I took my foot towards it and it looked a good finish.

"Obviously I’ve got that in the locker!”
