THE cap of football "star" certainly fits for Robyn McCafferty after a stunning season for the Woodmill High pupil.

Skipper of Hibs Ladies' under-19s, she's also led the Scottish Schools under-15 girls, triumphed over England and made her debut for the Scotland under-17s last month in European qualifiers.

National duty in France meant she missed out on the Scottish schools cap ceremony but secretary Leslie Donaldson caught up with her at school for a special presentation.

He later said: "Nothing gave me greater pleasure than ensuring that this young lady was rewarded for her efforts on behalf of the Scottish schools. She is just a star."

Robyn responded: "Thank you so much! Thank you for everything the organisation has done for me this season. I’ve had the best time."

The 14-year-old has enjoyed a stellar campaign, captaining the Scottish Schools under-15 girls to victory in challenge matches with Wales and playing her part for the under-16 side that took part in the UEFA Women’s Under-16 Development Tournament in York.

A win over England and Player of the Match performance was the highlight, until an "unexpected" call-up for the under-17 national side and the UEFA Elite Round qualifying matches in France in March.

Robyn, who only turns 15 next month, was an unused sub in the defeat against the hosts and made her debut in the 4-0 defeat against Sweden, where she played the full match.

She then played in the final match against Finland, which the young Scots also lost.

Ahead of the Sweden match her dad, Derek, had told the Press: “Robyn didn’t play in the first game but she was going there with the frame of mind that she won’t get much game time, if any, but the experience of being there will be good for her.

“It has been good and Woodmill have been fantastic in helping her. She’s reasonably mature for her age and, with the amount of time she’s had off school, she’s still catching up with her work and coping, which is a great credit to her.

“Hibs have been very good with her as well. She’s playing for the under-19 side and was captain in a couple of games, and she was told just before she went away they were going to make her captain.

“She’s doing really well and there’s loads of local talent coming through, which is great to see.”
