DUNFERMLINE Reign's female players have their eye on completing a dream double this weekend after shooting hoops to clinch an historic title win.

The basketball club's senior women's team are bidding to add the Lothian Cup, which they will contest against Edinburgh Lions at their St Columba's High School base on Saturday, to their success in winning the Lothian League.

That triumph, which was sealed with a 54-49 win over the West Lothian Wolves, was the first time Reign's women have won a league title and a 56-51 success over the same opponents on May 9 ensured they have the chance of winning the double.

Team member Laura Kirk, who together with Jeni Matson and Carrie Blair runs pay-as-you-play social sessions for women on a Monday evening, said: "We previously played as Dunfermline Steel so we're the first Reign women's team to win a league. We've been together for three years so it is really good to have made that progress.

"We just had the semi-final, which was quite close, but we managed to win against the West Lothian Wolves. It wasn't our best performance but it was good that we held it together, especially as we'd just won the league and only lost one game.

"We had a few supporters there who attend the social sessions, which was nice."

She added: "We're excited (for the final) but a little bit nervous. We haven't lost against them in our league games so we are probably more confident than we were going into the semi-finals, but we're just really pleased to be there.

"This is the first year that our coach, Catherine Millar, has coached the senior women's team so she's feeling quite nervous but hopefully we can do it."

The final against the Lions begins at St Columba's at 1pm, and entry for spectators is free.
