ROSYTH kickboxer Aaron Humphries is celebrating after bagging his first Scottish title – and is set for the trip of a lifetime to Central America.

The 13-year-old, of Peasehill Brae, has medalled at four of five competitions he has taken part in so far this year, which included winning a gold and silver at the WUMA (World United Martial Arts Federation) Scottish Open in March.

His medals were in the light continuous and points disciplines and came after he won silver medals in points at both the ISKA (International Sport Karate Association) and WKA (World Kickboxing Association) Scottish championships.

Two more silver gongs followed at last month’s WKC (World Karate and Kickboxing Commission) Aberdeen Open last month, which means he is eligible to compete at their World Championship in Dublin between October 27 and November 4.

In addition, Aaron, an S2 pupil at Dunfermline High School, has been invited to travel to Guatemala in February next year to take part in the WKC’s first-ever Pan-American championships.

He said: “I am really looking forward to it.

“It’s very exciting because the standard will be really high, and I think it will be bigger than the worlds.

“I hope that I can come back with something!

“I was pleased that I won the Scottish title. In the final, I was against my friend from Orkney and it was a close fight.

“We were friends before and after but during it I just saw it as a chance to win the title.”

Aaron, who trains with the Lion’s Den Tck Martial Arts Academy in Stonehaven twice a week, under the guidance of WKC president Malcolm Evans, is also hopeful of picking up medals in Dublin.

Last year, he won two bronze medals when the event was held in Florida, and he added: “The first time I went to the worlds in Dublin in 2016, my first fight was against a three-time world champion but then I won two bronze medals in Florida.

“I think I’ve got a good chance of winning a medal.”

Aaron has secured sponsorship from Mark Lothian Landscaping but is still on the lookout for sponsors.
