TWO members of Acrobay Gymnastics Club have made history by winning their first Grade Three British championship crown.

Mia Logan and Sophie Humphries were two of a talented team of gymnasts from the Rosyth-based club that travelled to Stoke-on-Trent for the recently-held NDP British Championships.

And they wowed the crowds with a sparkling performance to win the gold medal – the first that Acrobay have won at their grade.

It was the crowning moment of a hugely successful competition for Acrobay, who had nine partnerships taking part and picked up further silver and bronze medals.

Mia and Sophie were the first of the club's partnerships to perform on day one in the Grade Three women's pairs, producing a beautiful routine to take gold with a score of 27.500.

Their outstanding achievement was soon followed by that of Eve Gillies and Kayla Ballantyne who, in the Grade Five women's pairs, took silver with a score of 52.500, which was just 0.300 away from gold.

Emma Nelson and Emma Stollery then got in on the medals, performing a fine routine in the Grade One women's pairs to win a bronze medal, while Amy Byrne and Caitlin Mitchell performed two solid routines in a tough Grade Five women's groups category to place fifth.

The success continued on day two, with Lewis Cullen-Young and Katie Hendry's excellent routine in the Grade Four mixed pairs earning them a well-deserved silver medal, with a score of 27.100.

An entertaining performance in the Grade Four women's groups brought a bronze medal for Amy Middleton, Eve Ormiston and Hannah Johnston, while Rosie Jasper and Ava-Violet Daglish were unfortunate to narrowly miss out on a third-place finish in the Grade Four women's pairs after impressing with a stunning routine in a tough category.

Caitlin Allen, Emma Tait and Ruby Cunningham secured a top-half finish with sixth place in the Grade Two women's groups following a solid performance, while Ffion and Clara Joyce – day two's first competitors – held their nerve to score well in a tough Grade Two women's pairs category, finishing seventh.

Acrobay coach Debbie Wilson said: "The coaches were delighted with the performances of all the gymnasts.

"It's a massive competition for these young gymnasts, who seemed to take it all in their stride, and all their hard work and commitment has paid off."
