TRENCH Boxing Club is going from strength to strength after their move to bigger premises in West Fife.

The club lodged plans to convert a hairdressing salon and dance studio into a gym at Mercer Place in Dunfermline recently.

Trench provides classes for both children and adults and they say they've had around 120 new people through their doors in the last year.

Gordon Brennan, who runs the club, said: "We are very busy – most nights we have at least 40 people here.

"For the last 18 months we've been in a property in Elgin Industrial Estate but for one reason or another Fife Council refused planning permission so we decided to move on as it was causing quite a few problems.

"We've got this new building on a two-year lease and I'm pretty confident that we will outgrow Mercer Place too.

"Most people come to keep fit but we've got some competitive boxers too and hopefully after things are less hectic we'll be able focus on that more."

The club is part of the Boxing Scotland association and have 16 registered competitive boxers with them as well as five fully-qualified coaches.

They started out at Camdean Community Centre about seven years ago but could only offer classes a couple of nights a week to begin with.

"When we first started, we were limited in what we could offer but I knew as soon as we got our own place it would blow up,” Gordon added.

"We're run by a board so any money that's made goes straight back into the club which will hopefully get us a bigger place in the future.

"Hopefully, plans will move forward quickly at Mercer Place and we don't have any more problems."
