ATHLETES from West Fife were in fine form as they donned Scotland vests for an international meet in Wales.

A team of competitors was selected by scottishathletics to represent their country at the 2023 Welsh International Under-20 match, at Cardiff International Sports Campus on August 26, going head-to-head with teams from Wales' under-20s and Welsh schools; England under-18s and under-20s; Northern Ireland under-20s; and the Channel Islands.

Pitreavie AAC's Rory Voss was amongst the local athletes involved, competing in the men's 100 metres and 4x100m relay, and he returned home with two gold medals.

As well as winning his individual event, in a time of 11.00 seconds, he teamed-up with Dean Patterson, Euan Cunningham and Rory Brogan to set a Scottish under-20 record for the men's 4x100m, of 40.69, on their way victory.

Joining Rory on the winners' rostrum was Fife AC's Holly Ovens, who won her 800m event in 2:17.45, and was part of the winning 4x400m mixed relay team, alongside Omar Bajo, Ben Heron and Abbi MacLeod, that triumphed in what is believed to be a Scottish best time of 3:31.00.

Another Fife AC competitor, Andrew Thomson, placed second in the men's 1500m, finishing just behind England's Alexander Riley ( 4:05.36), in a time of 4:07.45, whilst there was a PB for Pitreavie's Anastasia Cotorobi.

Running in the women's 400m hurdles, the under-17 athlete ran a time of 1:03.19 for third place, behind race winner Hermione Mason (England, 1:01.34), and second placed Zoe Smith (England under-18, 1:02.42, PB).

There was also a third place for Dunfermline Track and Field's Sophie Thomas in the women's 100m race.

The talented youngster, who last year broke the Scottish national under-15 girls' 100m record, was the only under-17 athlete in a field of under-20 runners, and ran an impressive time of 12.52 to finish only behind Lily Murphy (England under-18, 12.09), and Gwendoline Datey (England, 12.15).

Club-mate, Darcie Black, competed in the women's long jump, placing seventh with a best effort of 5.45m.
