A PAIR of young golfers at Tulliallan Golf Club have become British Golf Champions at a national competition.

Evan and Lucas Macaulay became champions after winning their respective age categories in the Wee Wonders Grand Final, held at Gullane Golf Club.

The Wee Wonders is an annual event held just outside North Berwick, contested by the best junior golfers between the ages of five and 12.

Evan finished top in the 8-9 category while his younger brother Lucas was crowned champion of the 5-6 age group.

The boys’ dad Callum Macaulay said both him and his wife were immensely proud of their sons after being crowned British champions.

He said: “We’re both professional golfers and have played extensively in the past.

“The two boys have grown up with golf clubs in their hands and the big thing for us is that they both really enjoy it.

“We try to let them compete in tournaments and competitions where they can. Last week, everything fell together and they both managed to win their age groups which is just incredible.”

The two boys stay with their mum and dad in Paisley but are members of Tulliallan Golf Club through their dad, who grew up in Kincardine.

After being crowned British champions, Evan and Lucas have secured automatic qualification to the World UF Kids Championship, due to be held in the United States in August.

Here, the two junior pros will be up against the very best across the globe and will get the chance to play on the world famous Pinehurst Golf Resort in North Carolina.

Callum added: “We’ve now got plans to head out to the States next year and let them play against the best kids in the world.

“They’re both really excited for the trip. They watched a movie called The Short Game which takes place in North Carolina at the same golf course that they’ll be playing on.

“They became obsessed watching it and they’re over the moon that they’ll be playing on the same course as in the film.”
