HUNDREDS of youngsters descended on Carnegie Leisure Centre to showcase their talents in run, jump and throw events.

Over two successive Wednesdays, the second of which took place last week, Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council organised 'Sportshall Athletics' events for pupils in P5 and P7.

In the first, more than 370 pupils in P5, from 16 schools, participated, whilst more than 300 youngsters, from 13 schools, attended the P7 event.

Both days were extremely competitive, but enjoyed by those who took part, and Dalgety Bay and Kelty primaries finished on top of the overall standings.

Dalgety Bay, Cairneyhill and Carnegie made up the top three placed schools in the P5 festival, whilst Kelty, Townhill and Lynburn occupied those positions in the P7 event.

The festivals were supported by young sports leaders from Queen Anne and Lochgelly high schools, as well as representatives from Active Schools Fife, who help to run them alongside Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.

Traditionally, throughout the calendar year, the sports council run a series of festivals across a variety of sports for different primary school age ranges.

Points are awarded that go towards a final total to determine the winners of the ‘Sports School of the Year’ accolade at their annual awards ceremony.
