TITLE winners with Dunfermline Rugby Club are set to try and go for cup glory when they return to action later this month.

The McKane Park club's ladies side, who last month were crowned winners of Scottish Rugby's Women's Caledonia Midlands / East Division Two, will aim to continue their success when they begin their National Shield Campaign.

The team, coached by Gary Kenhard, will open their fixtures in the competition at home to Annan Rugby Club on Sunday January 28, before travelling to Cartha Queen's Park second XV seven days later.

They hit the road again on February 18, with a visit to Wigtownshire, before rounding off their games in the initial stage of the tournament at home to Broughton on March 10.

Following their league success, team captain, Lisa Hamilton-Martin, told Press Sport that finding out how they'll fare against sides from around the country would be a "good test" for them.

"As much as we're still revelling in this victory at the moment, we do move into the cup stages in early 2024," she said.

"That's Scotland-wide, so I think that'll be a good test to see where we're at against teams we've maybe not had a chance to play against yet, or teams that have never seen us playing, to get a good bit of perspective and see where we're at against the rest of Scotland and how that's going to turn out for us."

The ladies squad go into it on the back of a superb league season, which saw them sit top of the table after the first round of fixtures, before the division's eight teams were split into a top and bottom four to determine final placings.

Dunfermline won their first two games after the split, against Kirkcaldy and Perthshire, and were handed a victory over Lismore in their final game, giving them the trophy, after their opponents couldn't raise enough players to play the match.

Training for the team resumed last Friday and is open to beginners, regulars and returning players, aged 17-and-over.

They are training on Wednesday evenings between 8-9pm, and on Friday nights, from 7-8pm, at Dunfermline High School.
