The under-15 athlete’s performances helped the club secure a top-three finish, behind match winners Borders and narrowly behind runners-up Edinburgh A.

Pitreavie team manager Gillian Marshall said, “There were lots of new faces in the team and all under-11s were competing for the club for the very first time. All were enthusiastic and gave their all on the day.

“We had a great start to the match with Joshua winning the under-15 boys’ 100 metres and a fantastic finish to the match with the under-13 girls running a blinding 4x100m relay to take first place - and there were a lot of cracking performances in between too.” Joshua won the 100m in 12.7 seconds and was victorious in the shot putt with a throw of 10.06 metres, while Lee Turner was also a winner in the sprints, taking the under-15 boys’ B 100m in 12.9.

The pair teamed up with Ross Williamson and Billy Doyle for the 4x100m relay, finishing in third place.

Ailsa Marsh (U15 A), Taylor Connolly (U15 B) and Adam Williamson (U13 B) finished third in their 100m races, while Dani Mauchlen was second in the under-13 girls’ B race in 14.7.

Dani was then part of the winning under-13 girls’ 4x100m relay team, together with Lynn Harvey, Skye Marshall and Erin Turnbull, clocking an impressive 57.8.

The under-13 boys’ relay team were third in their race, while the under-15 girls and under-11 boys both finished fourth.

In the 800m races, Campbell Dowie won the under-13 boys’ B race in 2:28.90, while there were second-place finishes for Lauren Blair (U13 A), Lewis Dow (U15 A), Sophie Jeynes (U11 A) and Maya Millar (U11 B).

In the field events, as well as Joshua’s victory in the shot putt, there was a win for Alistair Moriarty in the under-15 boys’ B javelin, with his throw of 17.15m securing first place. Alistair was also third in the B shot putt.

Skye Marshall was third in the under-13 A high jump with 1.30m and Lynn Harvey was second in the B event with 1.15m. In the boys’ competition in the same age group, Ben Knowles was second in the A string with 1.35m and Samuel Turnbull third in the B string with 1.15m.

Nathan Allan was second in the under-11 boys’ B long jump with 2.99m and Sophie Jeynes was third in the U11 girls’ A competition with a jump of 2.94m.

Gillian added, “The team did really well to come third in this match, only a few points behind Edinburgh.

“This league has gone from strength to strength and is now really popular with 20 teams and three divisions. Only a few years ago the league had just 12 teams.

“The organisers do such a fantastic job that clubs are continually asking to join.” The second match of the season is due to take place at Meadowbank Stadium on Saturday 16th May.
