VICTORIES in the relays helped Pitreavie AAC get off to a very good start in the Men’s Scottish Athletics League.
The first match of the Division Two season took place at Grangemouth on Sunday and some excellent performances secured Pitreavie second place behind a strong Inverness team.
Excellent team spirit was much in evidence in the relays, with the quartet of Declan Brennan, Cameron Sinclair, Taylor Roy and Lewis McGuire winning the 4x100 metres in 44.66 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of their closest challengers.
Brennan was also part of the 4x400m line-up – joined by Ben Potrykus, Kyle Henderson and Ben Grant – claiming victory in 3:33.15; and he was successful in the 400m too, winning in 49.78.
Craig Moriarty was a winner in the long jump with 6.29m; Lewis McGuire won the high jump with a clearance of 2.01m; and Dylan Thomson was first in the pole vault, clearing 3.60m.
In the B events, there were victories for Potrykus in the 400m, Sinclair in the 100m and 200m, and Adam Johnston in the high jump.
Further top-three finishes were secured by Potrykus (2nd, 800m), Roy (3rd, 100m; 2nd, 200m), Tyler White (3rd, 1500m), Johnston (3rd, triple jump; 3rd, B javelin), Henderson (2nd, B 400m hurdles), Grant (2nd, B 800m), Michael Mellon (3rd, javelin) and Corey Smith (3rd, B 3000m steeplechase).
