MEMBERS of PH Racing Club enjoyed another weekend of strong racing as they took part in events on both sides of the country last week.

There was a large turnout from the club among the 1,100 competitors taking part in the annual Black Rock 5 race in Kinghorn last Friday.

In a highly competitive field, Ben Hukins was the highest-placed PH runner, finishing third in a time of 23 minutes 33 seconds, just behind winner Murray Strain (HBT, 23:24) and Neil Renault (Edinburgh AC, 23:27).

There were also good races run over the four-and-a-half-mile course by Ryan Lafferty (15th, 25:42), Jonathan Peebles (31st, 26:36), Stuart Mackay (35th, 26:51), Colin Somerville (44th, 27:34) and second junior Daniel Smith, who finished 60th overall in 28:43. Rachel Drummond finished third in the Female 35 category, and 10th female overall, in a time of 32:03.

Meanwhile, Karen Kennedy, fresh from her silver medal at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, competed in the Scottish Masters 3000 metres at the Crownpoint Stadium, Glasgow, and ran a PB of 10:56 to claim a Scottish Championship bronze medal.

On Sunday, four PH members travelled west to contest the Vale of Leven 10k from Alexandria and, in a highly competitive field covering the challenging 6.2-mile course, Andrew Smith was the first club runner over the line in 33rd place with a time of 36:35.

Martin McNellis clocked a time of 39:15, PH debutant Mark Western finished in 40:56, while in-form Mary Western was first in the Female 50 category in a time of 39:40.

There was a fourth place for Jonathan Peebles (56:34) in the Milngavie eight-and-a-half-mile trail race, while Rachel Drummond ended as the third female in 1:07.58. Lorraine Abbot, one of several thousand runners taking part in the Great Women’s 10k in Glasgow, recorded a PB.

In the Saturday park runs, Ben Hukins was a winner in Kirkcaldy (17:58) while Robyn Warrender was the first female (22:05), while Isla Mitchell, who was the fourth female, recorded a course PB.
