CARNEGIE Harriers runners were in fine form as they negotiated a Scottish Hill Running Championship race in Melrose recently.
Nine Harriers travelled south for the Eildons Three Hills Race, run over four-and-a-half miles and with a 1,500ft climb, and Steven King was their top performer as he finished 59th with a time of 44:27.
Pete Simpson was 66th in 45:14, followed by Jonathan Millar (49:27) and third-placed 40-plus female Alison Whyte (49:42). There were good times times recorded by Kevin Davie (50:08), Barry Davie (55:43), Melanie Sinclair (58:28), Morna Fleming (1:01:13) and Karen Forsyth (1:06:25).
Meanwhile, six Harriers competed in the Benarty Trail Race, with Alan McGowan leading them home in 22nd with a personal best of 32:04. He was followed by Dave Morton (34:15), Charlotte Briggs (36:48), Willie Scott (42:03), Kerry Lumsden (44:15) and Vicky Di Ciacca (47:18).
The 14.3-mile Seven Hills of Edinburgh competition – including 2,200 feet of ascent and descent and run as both a race and a challenge event – also saw representation from the Harriers on Sunday, June 26, with Neil McLure finishing the race in an impressive 30th place (2:05:17) and David Greig finishing in 2:28:04.
Karen Forsyth ran the Challenge in 3:20:35, a course PB by 5:41, followed by Barry Davie (3:20:37), John McTaggart (3:25:07) and Jane MacLeod (3:32:07).
On the same day, Paul Foster ran the category C Lairig Ghru hill race over marathon distance between Braemar and Aviemore in 4:19:02, while Allan Brannigan (39:31), Michael Bisset (40:23), Dave Morton (41:29) and Barry Davie (44.29) competed in the Skull Mountain Trail Race at Falkland.
