EILIDH DOYLE struck gold in Amsterdam yesterday as she stormed to European relay glory.

The Pitreavie AAC star and her Great Britain team-mates made a real statement of intent as they claimed the 4x400m title in dominant fashion at the European Athletics Championships.

It was a 10th career medal at a European or World championship event for the 29-year-old, who last month won the British 400m hurdles title in Birmingham to secure her place at the Olympic Games in that event.

Doyle is also set to race in Rio in the 4x400m relay and the GB team, also consisting of Emily Diamond, Anyika Onuora and Seren Bundy-Davies, showed they will be a force to be reckoned with in Rio.

With Doyle running the opening leg in Saturday's heats, they were quickest in qualifying for the final with a time of 3:26.42, but went even better in the final.

Despite changing the line-up that saw Doyle run the third leg, the British quartet ran a world-leading time of 3:25.05 to claim victory almost a second ahead of second placed France, while Italy claimed the bronze.

The Rio Olympics get underway next month and Doyle will hope her GB team-mates can better their fifth place finish in the 4x400m relay final of the 2012 Games.
