EILIDH DOYLE made history this morning as she qualified for the final of the 400 metre hurdles at the Olympic Games.
The Pitreavie AAC star made it through to her first Olympic final in an individual event as a fastest loser following a nerve-shredding semi-final in Rio.
Doyle, 29, qualified from her heat with ease in a time of 55.46 seconds in the early hours of Tuesday, and lined up in the second of the three semi-finals alongside Jamaica's 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Janieve Russell and current world indoor 400m champion Ashley Spencer of the USA.
.@EilidhChild will taker her place in the final! her time of 54.99 secs is enough to see her qualify as a fastest loser #Rio2016

Two-time Commonwealth silver medallist Doyle ran well in her race, keeping pace with Russell until the final few metres where she was pipped over the line by Spencer, who made a late push to the victory, and the Jamaican.
But Doyle's time of 54.99 was good enough to seal a spot in the final, which will take place at 2.15am on Friday morning.
After failing to qualify from her semi-final at London in 2012, Friday's final will be her first in the 400m hurdles at the Olympics but she was part of the 4x400m relay team that finished fifth in 2012.
"I apologise to my coach and my family and my husband for putting them through that" says @EilidhChild - we think they'll forgive you!
