WEST FIFE track star Owen Miller began the new year with a personal best performance at the BMC/Glasgow Metric Miller Meeting.

The Fife Athletic Club athlete was in action at the Emirates Arena earlier this month and recorded a new PB for the 3000 metres of 8:57.33, knocking more than 20 seconds off his best.

Miller, who competes in the T20 class, has been Scotland’s leading middle distance athlete with a learning disability over the last decade and enjoyed a successful 2016. He won the T20 800m and finished second in the 1500m at the INAS European Athletics Championships in Ankara, Turkey, in the summer and followed that up by retaining his 800m and 1500m Scottish titles.

There was also a 800m PB of 1:58.20 while running for his club at the BMC Regional Races in Glasgow and, at the same event in July, he set his second fastest 1500m time of 4:03.20.

Last year, Miller was ranked second in Great Britain for the 800m and third in the 1500m, and Disability Sport Fife president Richard Brickley said: “There are those of us who think he has even more to offer.”
