WEST FIFE swimmers made a splash at the 2007 British International Disability Swimming at Ponds Forge, Sheffield recently.

The event brought together more than 250 swimmers featuring the best in Britain as well as top performers from 15 other countries.

Dalgety Bay"s Rebecca Lee (Dunedin SC and Disability Sport Fife) is the only Scot in the Great Britain team for the World Championships for swimmers with a learning disability in Belgium in August following her outstanding performances at the European Championships in the Czech Republic last year.

Lee only competed at one day of the championships but showed she was in good shape, taking gold in her favoured event of the 100m butterfly and silver in the 50m freestyle in the S14 class.

Another S14 swimmer who made a big impression at the championships was Dunfermline youngster Craig Rodgie (Carnegie SC and Disability Sport Fife).

Fresh from his record- breaking performances at the Scottish Championships, Rodgie took silver in the 100m butterfly and bronze in the 100m backstroke finishing ahead of established Great Britain team members.

Rodgie also swam a personal best time in the 50m freestyle.

2006 world champion Andrew Lindsay (Stirling Swim and Disability Sport Fife) is arguably the most consistent performer in the Great Britain team at the present time. Lindsay kept up his impressive run in the S6 100m backstroke winning gold in a time less than a second outside his own world record, and he also followed that up with silver in the 400m freestyle.

Earlier, Lee and Rodgie helped Fife retain their national title at the 2007 Scottish Championships for swimmers with a learning disability at Tollcross Leisure, Glasgow.

Lee, who is Scotland"s number one S14 female swimmer, successfully defended her 100m individual medley and 50m backstroke titles.

Rodgie won four individual titles and set three national records.

His victories came in the 100m individual medley, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle.

Rodgie and Lee both received Excellence in Swimming awards at Disability Sport Fife"s annual awards ceremony recently.

Andrew Lindsay won the Leslie Inglis Trophy for Swimmer of the Year while InCAS coach Garrie Roberts was named Coach of the Year.

Carnock"s Stephen Burns won one of four Ian Cowper Trophies, a Special Olympics recognition award.
