ATHLETES from Pitreavie AAC helped Kingdom Athletic finish fifth in the second match of the National Junior League Northern Premier Division at Grangemouth Stadium.

Team captain Kevin Ireland did well vaulting 2.76m in the pole vault for sixth place, his best for a while.

Kathryn Pennel, making her debut for the team, won the 3000m in a time of 10mins 30.08secs, before finishing second in the 1500m with a time of 5:07.17.

In the women"s 200m, Bethanie Finlayson smashed her personal best to win in a time of 25.22, having earlier finished fourth in the 100m with a time of 12.62. She also anchored the 4x100m team of Emma Gordon, Lauren McManus and Anna Robertson to fourth place with a time of 51.14.

Anthony Young had another busy day, clocking 50.35 in the 400m. Young then ran the 200m, when he was recorded as fifth with 22.60 but a failure of the photo finish meant he was unfortunate to have to rely on the line judges, who mistook the finishing order as he had actually crossed the line in third place but with no evidence the team and the athlete had to accept the result. He then ran the second leg of the 4x100m in the team of Luke Kelly, Gareth Lamb and Surak Suksamer to finish sixth in a time of 45.48. Then he anchored the 4x400m squad of Matthew Overand, Gareth Lamb and Matthew White to third place with a very swift split time of 48.99s. Surak Suksamer finished fourth in the 100m in a personal best of 11.30.

Ross McManus came third in his favoured event, the hammer, with 47.06m, threw 11.06m for fifth in the shot putt then finished off with 32.57m for fourth in the discus.

Donald Tod, who was making his competitive debut for the team, was third in the triple jump with 12.74m.

The women"s pole vaulters again picked up good points with Isla Winchester clearing 3.10m for second place and Robyn Smith winning the B event with 2.15m. Ciara Elwis also guested in this event and also cleared 2.15m.
